Publish seems to kill Blanks

Hi there!

First time developer…just got my 12 blank packet of dev blinks this weekend, and had some issues with two (so far) of my blanks when using the publish tool. These things are super neat

I was able to download and install the 328 SDK for the newer blinks…have have programmed several already with some sketches using the publish tool, but two of them seem to have had an issue during the download and appear bricked now…they won’t turn on or even acknowledge the publish tool when I plug it in. Removal and reinstallation of the battery doesn’t seem to help either.

Here is the error message I managed to grab off the one unsuccessful downloads…any way I can recover these somehow??

avrdude done. Thank you.

Just wanted to add on here that I had another blank have an issue with the publish tool…then published on two more blinks right after that without issue… (including the same sketch for one of them).

So now I have 9/12 blinks working presently out of this set…hoping anybody out there has a good method to recover these?..

Hi Mallen,

So, with the publishing tool you need to be EXTREAMLY Careful. You can easily short circuit a blink with it if it touches the wrong parts. I’m guessing this is the cause…

Sadly, I think this may be the case…they won’t power on at all.

That being said, I was very ginger with the others, and have been able to program them using the publish tool…so the process works…just gotta cross fingers and hope to see the

avrdude done…

It might be worth emailing support they may replace your broken blinks one time.

I’m unsure if I should have started a new thread, but I’m having this same problem with a different error. Just got mine and I have two Blinks that seem to just not work, while I’ve only had one be successful. I’m really nervous to even try any of the others.

I was lucky to be scanning the forums before I got my kit and so I had seen the bit about being careful, and so I was. I’m not sure what I did wrong but I don’t think it was touching wrong parts… it seems to not be able to read some file… but I followed all instructions and even had a Blink load correctly. Both Blinks were lit up for part of the download, then no longer responded.

My error is as follows:
Arduino: 1.8.19 (Windows Store 1.8.57.0) (Windows 10), Board: “Blink328”

An error occurred while uploading the sketch

Any help would be appreciated

This is a different error. It seems you are missing the blink bios. How did you setup the SDK?

I followed the instructions from this thread (used the dropbox link), and unzipped the file into the newly made hardware folder. Then restarted Arduino and selected the new board, as instructed.
The error said it was looking for BlinkBIOS.hex in that folder, here are the files in the bootloaders folder:

The only other thing I’m noticing out of place is there is a _MacOSX Folder that was unzipped as well, but I am on Windows, but the file path didn’t seem to go that direction anyway, so I’m thinking that is irrelevant.

Updated the dropbox link to now fix this issue. You can also duplicate BlinkBIOS-168PB.hex and rename it to BlinkBIOS.hex.

As stated below…yes…yours seems to be a different issue.

Mine was simply a publish to the blink that resulted in a dead blink. The avrdude even returned a “done” but going back up through the log, you could see where it appeared that it tried to download, but something blocked it.

Anyways, I just received some replacement blinks, and will be dropping the dead ones back in the mail to ship back…so maybe they can figure out what happened to them…

The good news is that your Blinks are fine. This is just a software issue so when it is fixed things should work.

This is excellent and it totally worked! Thank you so much! Everything seems to be working smoothly now

And yes, even though the lights weren’t going on when I connected them, they did light up after the writing process and seem to be just fine! Thank you as well !
